CBD & Skin Care: Your Skin Will Love You

There is no shortage of CBD supporters out there who have experienced first-hand the benefits of the plant compound. From mitigating anxiety, stress and tension to alleviating the symptoms of PMS, CBD has found a permanent place on our nightstands and in our wellness routines. It’s no surprise that the list of CBD benefits continues to grow. Women are incorporating CBD serums, night creams, cleansers and masks to their nightly rituals after realizing the many healing benefits of CBD.

Combat Inflammation

Well-known for its anti-inflammatory properties, cannabinoids are potent anti-inflammatory agents and may be a great option for those living with dryness and redness of the skin especially as we move into the dryer, colder months. A CBD serum is a great option for those of us who aren’t worried about clogged pores but are looking to add another layer of moisture and relief to dry, itchy skin. Serums that incorporate CBD are beneficial for several reasons. Not only are they great for topical application they also serve as a reliever of pain, aid in muscle relaxation and offer antioxidant benefits.

Minimize Breakouts

Acne is the result of sebum overproduction, unwanted sebocyte proliferation and inflammation according to The Journal of Clinical Investigation. Our endocannabinoid systems (ECS) are complex and countless studies indicate that the ECS is responsible for the regulation of many physiological processes that occur within our bodies. We know that our ECS plays a critical role in the production of sebum so while more studies are needed to indicate with certainty whether or not CBD can combat acne (a result of overactive sebum production) it’s very likely that CBD will prove to be an effective treatment. The clinical study mentioned above resulted in some very promising and exciting effects of CBD on the unwanted growth of sebocytes, namely, that CBD was shown to greatly reduce the proliferation of sebocytes in the presence of CBD. So while there is still much to learn on the topic, CBD is a great option for those looking to combat acne woes and unwanted breakouts.

Step Aside Eczema and Psoriasis

While our genetics, environment and immune system play a role in certain chronic skin disorders such as psoriasis and eczema, it’s possible that CBD may be an option for those looking to combat skin ailments while avoiding traditional pharmaceuticals that often come with a myriad of unwanted side effects. A research article published last year indicates that a topical regimen of CBD-enriched ointment greatly reduced the appearance and symptoms of psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. The conclusion from the study indicates that CBD topicals are a safe, effective, non-invasive treatment for those of us living with skin disorders, especially those inflammatory in nature.
